Fire Chief Hennessy announces his retirement from Southern Manatee. After 30 years in the fire service.

“I didn’t know the emotion that would go with the decision to retire,” he said. “It was 30 years (ago that I became a firefighter). I remember it like yesterday.”

ThumbnailSouthern Manatee Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Foster Gover has been awarded the Florida State Fire Marshal of the Year by the Florida State Fire Marshals and Inspectors Association. Deputy Chief Gover received this prestigious award at the annual Association banquet Wednesday evening at the Crown Plaza Hotel/Resort in Ft. Myers. Over 250 fire officials attended the annual event. Deputy Chief Gover also received the Lifetime Membership award for his participation with the association.

Former Fire Chief Paul Deese Jr passed away Friday April 24, 2009.  Chief Deese Retired from the Samoset Fire Department after  his tenure as Chief From 1980 - 1990. He also served as a past president of the Samoset Community Center. The Funeral services were held on Saturday May 2, 2009 at the Manasota Memorial Park in Bradenton. The service was attended by members of the Fire Service, EMS & Sheriff's Department as well as The Manatee County Honor Guard.
